Walker Appoints New DNR Secretary

DNR Secretary Dan Meyer

Gov. Scott Walker announced Monday that former Republican state Rep. Dan Meyer is taking over as Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Meyer represented the 34th District (Rhinelander) in the Assembly from 2001-2013. Prior to serving in the legislature, Meyer was mayor of Eagle River and executive director of Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center.

Meyer replaces former secretary Cathy Stepp, who moved to the Environmental Protection Agency in August.

Walker may also soon appoint a new Secretary for the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Former Secretary Ben Brancel retired in August, and Deputy Secretary Jeff Lyon is currently serving as DATCP’s interim secretary.
