2019-2021 State Budget

The state budget process is just beginning, as 2019-21 agency budget requests were due to Gov. Scott Walker and the Department of Administration (DOA) on Monday, Sept. 17. Under Wisconsin’s biennial budget process, DOA’s State Budget Office and the Governor’s Office will review the agency requests and develop the biennial budget. The governor will then present his budget to the state legislature for its consideration in early 2019.

Opioid Abuse Treatment, Prevention and Education

Wisconsin has been a leader in fighting the nationwide opioid abuse crisis. In response to Wisconsin’s opioid overdose epidemic, Gov. Scott Walker created the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse. The Task Force, chaired by Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, meets regularly, hears from stakeholders, and reports policy recommendations to the governor and legislature. Nygren has led the legislative effort to combat Wisconsin’s opioid epidemic with his Heroin, Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) agenda starting in the 2013-14 session and continuing into 2018.
