The signature verification saga continues to unfold in the recall efforts against Governor Walker, Lt. Gov. Kleefisch, and four Republican Senators.

Gov. Scott Walker announced he will not challenge any of the one million signatures filed by opponents seeking to recall him, siting lack of review time. Walker had 10 days under state law to challenge signatures, and a Dane County judge granted him an additional 20 days. But Walker was turned down when he sought two more weeks to examine the 152,500 pages of signatures.

Walker’s campaign asked that the Government Accountability Board continue its official review of the signatures. The GAB has until March 19 to complete its review; however, GAB officials say they probably will need more time to finish reviewing signatures on recall petitions, and on Monday wrote a letter to lawmakers asking for an additional $404,500 to help cover costs.

The four senators targeted for recall have already submitted their challenges to their petitions, and the accountability board will consider them at its meeting on March 12.

According to state law, if the GAB concludes that enough signatures are valid, an election would be ordered for six weeks later. If there is a primary, it would be held on that date with the general election four weeks after that.
