New Congressional Map Challenge Filed

In June 2025 a unanimous Wisconsin Supreme Court declined to hear two lawsuits challenging Wisconsin’s congressional boundaries and seeking to redraw the map before the 2026 midterms. Both cases asked the court to take original jurisdiction, that is, they were filed directly with the court without first working their way through lower courts. The decision to not hear these two cases was released without explanation or comment. A new challenge was recently filed in Dane County Circuit Court, arguing the current congressional maps in Wisconsin are an “anti-competitive gerrymander that artificially suppresses electoral competition in most of the plan’s districts.” The two previous cases argued that the maps are a partisan gerrymander and violate Equal Protection. Wisconsin is currently represented in the US House by six Republicans and two Democrats.
