Hamilton Staff Picks of 2014

This year’s gift from Hamilton Consulting to you is a list of our favorite resources we use for work and pleasure as political junkies.

Bob Fassbender, Lobbyist

My favorite online reading is  The Wall Street Journal. In the office, I rely on The Wheeler Report and WisPolitics.com.

Andy Engel, Lobbyist

I go to RealClearPolitics.com to get a full inventory of politics through the nation. This website reports on polling results that are hard to find elsewhere.

Rebecca Hogan, Lobbyist

I’m picking the Legislative Council website – the most underappreciated site there is. There is no other resource where you can find digital copies of testimony provided from each and every legislative committee hearing. Every document provided at a bill hearing can be found under each bill on the Leg Council’s website.

 Caty McDermott, Lobbyist

One of my all-time favorite websites is Governing.com – it covers politics and policy and management issues for state and local governments. Governing.com provides news, commentary, and analysis on all issues – including public finance, transportation, economic development, health, energy, technology, and the environment. Governing.com is a great resource to learn about trending policy issues across all states and examine state-specific approaches in every possible topic area. If there is one thing I read that’s not just solely a Wisconsin resource – this is it!

Rebecca Ballweg, Marketing and Communications

Slate’s Political Gabfest is my must-listen of the week. Three lead political journalists and commentators from CBS, The New York Times, and Slate get together and discuss the week’s political news as if they’re all discussing current events over a cocktail after work. The debate is intelligent, funny, and provides valuable insight and discussion that a regular newspaper article just doesn’t have time for. You can download each episode on iTunes, or listen to it online.

Saralee Fassbender, Publications and Communications

I check my Twitter feed for news, covering everything from state and local politics to travel and weather updates. Some that I follow: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Politico, Vox, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, NPR, Christian Schneider from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and of course, Hamilton Consulting!
