Wisconsin surpasses 3 million fully vaccinated against COVID-19

MADISON (WLUK) -- More than 3 million people in Wisconsin have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the state Department of Health Services, 3,005,625 people, composing 51.6% of the state's population, had completed their vaccine series as of Thursday. A total of 3,197,686 (54.9%) had received at least one dose. Those numbers include 65.8% of Wisconsin adults having received at least one dose and 62.2% having completed their vaccine series.


Meanwhile, numbers of new cases continued to rise. DHS said 2,370 people tested positive on Wednesday, the most since Jan. 13. The seven-day average of new cases rose to 1,744, its highest level since Jan. 19. Test positivity was at 8.1%.

Although there were 11 deaths reported on Wednesday, the seven-day average fell to seven.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 665,473 total cases and 7,638 deaths.


The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention transmission map showed some changes. Menominee County was in the "low" category. Florence County, which had been in the "moderate" category for several days, rose to the "substantial" category. The rest of Wisconsin was in the high category, except Iron County (moderate), Ashland County (substantial) and Lafayette County (substantial).

Hospitalizations as of Thursday crept toward 1,000. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 976 COVID-19 patients, 32 more than on Wednesday and 160 more than a week earlier. Of those, 302 were in intensive care, up 22 in a day and 53 over a week.

Northeast region hospitals had 90 COVID-19 patients, 11 more than on Wednesday and 21 more than a week earlier. Twenty-five of those were in ICUs, up three in a day and four over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 93 COVID-19 patients, nine more than on Wednesday and 28 more than a week earlier. Eighteen of those were in ICUs, the same as on Wednesday and five more than a week earlier.
