COVID-19 infections increase 83% across Wisconsin

SUPERIOR — The number of new infections of COVID-19 rose 83% over the previous week, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported Wednesday, April 13.

Douglas County has a growing case trajectory of 111%, according to DHS figures.

The seven-day average of new cases in Wisconsin was 673 on Wednesday, up from 412 on April 6. The figure measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An increase indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is going up, according to DHS.

Hospitalizations as a result of COVID-19 rose to 191 people Wednesday, up from 163 on April 6 based on a rolling seven-day average.

Among the people hospitalized, 25 were being treated in intensive care units, down from 28 the previous week. About 13% of all COVID-19 patients were being treated in an ICU, DHS said.

An additional 36 people died from complications related to COVID-19 statewide since April 6, the data showed, bringing the total to 12,851. Among those who died was one person in Douglas County.

Statewide, an additional 4,757 new cases were reported since April 6. The total number of cases across the state was 1,399,923 Wednesday.

Closer to home, an additional 108 people in Northwestern Wisconsin tested positive for COVID-19 since April 6, DHS said.
They were reported as follows: 49 in Douglas County; 13 in Bayfield County; 10 in Burnett County; nine in Washburn County; seven in Taylor County; six each in Ashland, Rusk and Sawyer counties; and one each in Iron and Price counties.

About 60.9% of Wisconsin's population is fully vaccinated.
