WisconsinEye recently hosted a “Newsmakers” segment titled “The Decline of the Car Culture?” in which Senior Producer Steve Walters discussed the following facts gathered from WISDOT and Legislative Fiscal Bureau reports with guests, Rob Kennedy,Transportation Planner for UW-Madison; Tom Klein, Dane County Director for the Wisconsin Bike Fed; and Carl Schroedl, a Madison bike enthusiast:

• 20% decline the in the number of 16-year-olds with driver’s license (2002-2012)
• Vehicle miles traveled in WI peaked in 2004
• Car, light truck registrations trail population growth
• Gallons of fuel consumed statewide went down 6 of the last 8 years
