The Department of Administration’s Office of Business Development is seeking public input on the proposed merger of the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). They have developed a survey to gather feedback on the proposal, and would like people that interact with either or both of the agencies to take it.
DSPS manages the licensing and regulation of professions in health, business and construction trades. They also oversee state building safety codes and provide services related to plan review, permit issuance, building and component inspection, and safety codes. DATCP is responsible for the promotion and regulation of Wisconsin’s agriculture industry, including Agriculture Resource Management and Animal Health, as well as the oversight of food safety and consumer protection. The 2013-15 state budget calls for a study about consolidating these two agencies.

A clarifying note from the Office of Business Development: Throughout the survey, you will see the term ‘license’ which refers to any license, credential, certification, registration or permit. Please view the term to mean the document a state agency issues as a requirement to do business, perform an occupation or specific work activity in the State of Wisconsin.
