Candidates Set for June Special Elections

The matchups are set for the two special elections that will take place on Tuesday, June 12. Sitting state Rep. Andre Jacque (R-DePere) won the Senate District 1 primary by 300 votes against political newcomer Alex Renard. Jon Plumer, a local elected official from Lodi who currently runs a karate studio, easily won the Republican primary in Assembly District 42.
 
 
SCOTUS Decision: Epic Systems v. Lewis (Arbitration Agreements)

The U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision this week in Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis, holding that individualized arbitration contracts between employers and employees that waive class actions are enforceable under the Federal Arbitration Act.
 
 
Walker Announces New DOC Secretary

Gov. Scott Walker's office announced this week that Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Jon Litscher is retiring from the agency. Walker has appointed DOC Deputy Secretary Cathy Jess to replace Litscher beginning June 11.
 
 
Walker Releases 2019-21 Agency Budget Directives 

Earlier this month, Gov. Scott Walker provided agencies with directives for preparing their budgets for the 2019-21 biennium. Walker requested agencies be "aggressive" in identifying savings and emphasized that agencies be "good stewards of taxpayers' money."

 
2018 Wisconsin State GOP Convention

Wisconsin Republicans gathered earlier this month for the annual Wisconsin state GOP convention. About 900 attendees met in Milwaukee to hear from the state's Republican leaders. The convention looked ahead to the November elections.
 
 
AV Committee Discusses Draft Report

Gov. Scott Walker's Steering Committee on Autonomous and Connected Vehicles met this week for their final discussion before they release their report.
 

OCI 1332 Waiver Notice of Completion

On May 9, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sent Wisconsin a letter noting that CMS has determined the Officer of Commissioner of Insurance's 1332 Waiver application to be complete. The 1332 Waiver is the state plan for creating a reinsurance program for health carriers.
