Gov. Evers Delivers Fourth State of the State; Calls Special Session on Surplus Spending
Gov. Tony Evers delivered his fourth annual State of the State address on the evening of February 15 before a joint session of the Wisconsin Legislature. The address was delivered in the Assembly Chambers of the Wisconsin Capitol Building. It was the final address of Gov. Evers’ first term as governor; he is seeking reelection this November.

Senate and Assembly Floor Sessions: February 15
Both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature met on February 15 for floor sessions to vote on bills and resolutions. The Senate passed 39 bills and six resolutions, while the Assembly passed two resolutions.

Legislative Update: Lawsuit Lending; Building Trades; GOP Workforce Package
The Wisconsin Legislature appears poised to finish its business by March 10, the last regular session day on its 2021-22 calendar. With that, many bills are moving quickly through the legislative process. Here, we review some notable items.

Gov. Evers Signs 21 Bills, Including Telehealth Definitions
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources plans to present its final proposed regulations for three rulemakings to the Natural Resources Board at the board’s February meeting. DNR will present rules regulating the allowable levels of certain PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) and other compounds in surface water, groundwater, and drinking water.

Remaining Session Dates; State of the Tribes
Remaining session dates:

  • The Assembly will meet later today, February 17, for a floor session.
  • Assembly members have been asked to keep February 22, 23, and 24 open as additional floor days if needed.
  • The Senate will meet February 22 for a floor session.
  • The Legislature’s calendar sets aside March 8-10 as the final regular floor period of the 2021-22 session. The Senate and Assembly will meet at least once each that week.

The annual State of the Tribes address will be held February 22 at 1 PM in the Assembly Chambers.
