MADISON – After a slow fundraising start, attorney general candidate Adam Jarchow says he raised more in the last month than his Republican primary opponent raised in all of last year.

Jarchow, a former state lawmaker from Balsam Lake, filed paperwork to run for attorney general in October and seeded his campaign with $10,000 of his own money a month later. He raised no money during the rest of 2021, according to a campaign finance filing.

But over the last month, he raised more than $100,000, according to his campaign.

That's more than Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney raised in all of 2021. Toney got in the race in April and raised about $84,000 between then and the end of the year, his campaign finance report shows.

The disclosure from Jarchow shows he's trying to play catchup to Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul, who had about $1 million in his campaign account at the end of December.

Jarchow and Toney will face each other in the Aug. 9 primary. The winner will go up against Kaul in the Nov. 8 general election.

"Voters are excited about our campaign to fire Josh Kaul, and I’m humbled by the incredible support that we’ve earned from patriots across Wisconsin," Jarchow said in a statement.

Toney announced Tuesday he had hired longtime Republican fundraiser Mary Stitt to lead his fundraising efforts.

“Our fundraising support and team has grown tremendously, and we’ll have the resources to deliver our message and defeat Josh Kaul," Toney said in a statement
