May 14 – JFC Approves Governor’s Clean Water Proposals, Rejects Lead Pipe Replacement Funding

Under the Environmental Improvement Fund, JFC approved several of the governor’s clean water proposals. JFC approved an additional $13.5 million in bonding for the clean water fund, an increase of $3.55 million in bonding for the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program (SDWLP), and increased the maximum loan term for SDWLP loans from 20 to 30 years (as requested in Gov. Evers’s budget corrections). The JFC Democrats attempted to advance a proposal for $35 million in bonding for the replacement of lead service lines, a similar proposal to the $40 million in bonding proposed by the governor. The motion was ruled out of order,  because JFC had removed the provision in its initial vote to remove 131 items from Gov. Evers’s budget.
