Wisconsin has been a leader in fighting the nationwide opioid abuse crisis. In response to Wisconsin’s opioid overdose epidemic, Gov. Scott Walker created the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse. The Task Force, chaired by Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, has wrapped up its work and provided its final report. Nygren has led the legislative effort to combat Wisconsin’s opioid epidemic with his Heroin, Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) agenda starting in the 2013-14 session and continuing through 2018. For the 2019-20 legislative session, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) has created an Assembly Committee on Substance Abuse & Prevention.
