Eighteen new members were officially inaugurated into the Wisconsin Legislature on Jan. 7, 2019. Over the next several weeks, HCG will highlight each new member of the legislature. This week, meet Reps. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc), LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee), Loren Oldenburg (R-Viroqua) and Timothy Ramthun (R-Campbellsport).
Rep. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc)
Rep. Kurtz, representing District 50, is a veteran and currently works as an organic farmer. Kurtz previously worked for U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and serves on the the Department of Trade, Agriculture & Consumer Protection’s Organic Advisory Board. Kurtz has two children and lives in Wonewoc.
Rep. LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee)
Rep. Myers, representing District 12, was born in Milwaukee and works in the Milwaukee Public Schools. Her previous experience includes working as the education director at the Department of Corrections, as a subcommittee clerk in the U.S. House of Representatives, and as a legislative aide in the Wisconsin Senate.
Myers is the President of the Historically Black College/University Alumni United and a member of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Black School Educators, National Education Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and Wisconsin African American Chamber of Commerce. Myers graduated from Alcorn State University and has graduate degrees from Strayer University and Argosy University.
Rep. Loren Oldenburg (R-Viroqua)
Rep. Oldenburg, representing District 96, is a fourth-generation farmer, operating his family dairy farm between Viroqua and Chaseburg. He also co-owns a small business, “The Happy Canvas by Linda,” with his wife. Oldenburg has served as president of the Westby Cooperative Creamery and chairman of the Township of Harmony. He is a graduate of UW-La Crosse.
Rep. Timothy Ramthun (R-Cambellsport)
Rep. Ramthun, representing District 59, was born and raised in Kewaskum. Ramthun is the director of the Kewaskum School District Board of Education and works as an executive business management consultant. His previous experience includes running a small family business. Ramthun has two children and eight grandchildren.
