The Wisconsin Dental Association held their sixth annual Mission of Mercy, with Delta Dental’s support and staff volunteering their time. The Mission of Mercy program provides free dental care in one community for two days to those who are unable to obtain oral care. According to Dr. Fred Eichmiller, Delta Dental of Wisconsin Vice President & Science Officer, “This event provides them an opportunity to directly live our mission of improving access to better oral health.”
At this year’s Mission of Mercy in Green Bay, held during the last weekend in June, volunteers performed over 8,000 procedures and over 400 medications were performed onsite. These included:
8,136 procedures (+400 medications distributed onsite) including but not limited to:
480 fluoride varnish
149 full and partial dentures
43 root canals and therapeutic pulpotomies
17 alveoplasty (surgical procedure used to smooth out the jawbone)
The amount of care provided amounted to over $1.3 million of care provided to 1,753 unique patients.
