On Tuesday, Senators Testin, Cabral Guevera, and Roys were joined by Assembly Representatives Kurtz and Subeck to release this session’s APRN modernization bill. As stated in the cosponsorship memo, “the APRN Modernization Act will bring Wisconsin in line with the National Consensus Model of Advanced Nurse Licensure. It will provide clarity to the scope of practice of these important healthcare providers in comparison to other professionals in the state and their peers across state lines. APRNs are recognized in states all across the country, including our neighbors Minnesota and Illinois.”
While supported by many nursing organizations, this legislation is also supported by the health insurance industry, the business community, Wisconsin tribes, universities, and public health groups as it will provide all regions of the state with more access to providers practicing at the top of their license.
The APRN Modernization Act has been introduced in numerous variations for over a decade but this session there looks to be an agreement with both houses of the legislature and Governor Evers.
