The 2020 elections may feel like the distant future, but candidates in Wisconsin are already beginning to make decisions regarding races next November. President Donald Trump and several candidates in the Democratic presidential primary seeking to challenge him have already visited the state, which could be key to winning the 2020 presidential election. Additionally, several  Wisconsin candidates recently announced their 2020 plans.

This week, Democrat Josh Pade announced he will run against freshman U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District. Pade is an attorney from Kenosha who lost to now-Gov. Tony Evers in the eight-way Democratic primary for governor in 2018.

Also announcing 2020 plans recently was Rep. Amanda Stuck (D-Appleton). Stuck’s campaign announced on July 14 that she plans to challenge current U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Green Bay) for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

Other challengers for U.S. Congressional seats in 2020 include Republican Cindy Werner, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) in the 4th District. Werner is a property manager and small business owner who previously ran for the seat in 2018. In the 6th Congressional District, Democrat Matt Boor is challenging U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah). Boor current works in business development at Broadwind Energy.

At the state level, following Stuck’s announcement, Lee Snodgrass announced she will run for Stuck’s seat in the state legislature, Assembly District 57. Snodgrass lost a challenge to Senate President Roger Roth (R-Appleton) in 2018.

Additionally, Rep. Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) told WisPolitics on July 23 that he will not seek reelection in 2020. Instead, Rohrkaste will focus on his new appointment as executive director of the Fox Valley Memory Project.

In the 2020 election Wisconsinites will vote in elections for:

• President
• All Assembly districts.
• Odd-numbered Senate districts.
• All eight U.S. House districts.

Wisconsin does not have a statewide gubernatorial or U.S. Senate race in 2020.
