State Senate Races
Democrats
took control of the State Senate by winning an open seat and defeating three
incumbent Republicans. Leadership elections were held Nov. 9. Senate
Democrats named Judy Robson Majority Leader; Dave Hansen Assistant Majority
Leader; Fred Risser, Senate President. Mark Miller was named Caucus Chair.
Senate Republicans elected Scott Fitzgerald Minority Leader; Joe Leibham,
Assistant Minority Leader and Glenn Grothman Caucus Chair.
Key Races
Senate
District 5 - First-term incumbent Republican Sen. Tom Reynolds (R-West
Allis) was defeated by Wauwatosa Democrat Jim Sullivan, an attorney and
owner of Sullivan & Mikow, LLC.
Senate
District 21 - Republican Senator Cathy Stepp announced she would not
seek re-election to this seat. Democratic candidate John Lehman, a current
member of the State Assembly defeated Racine County Executive William L.
"Mac" McReynolds.
Senate
District 23 - Sen. David Zien (R-Eau Claire) was defeated by Democrat
Pat Kreitlow, former anchor for WEAU in Eau Claire.
Senate
District 31 - Incumbent Sen. Ron Brown (R-Eau Claire) was defeated by
Democrat Kathleen Vinehout, a Buffalo County farmer who operates a 223 acre
farm near Alma with her husband and son.
