State Senate Races

The Republicans picked up only one of their four targeted seats, with Republican Dan Kapanke defeating Democrat Brad Pfaff in the open 32nd by a 52.5 to 47.5 margin. All Republican incumbents won and the Kapanke victory increased from 18-15 to19-14 the Republican majority for next session.

In the other targeted races ("Democrat Protect"), all incumbent Democrats won reelection: Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) over former State Senator Gary Drzewiecki (55 to 45); Roger Breske (D-Eland) over Tom Tiffany (53 to 47); and, Bob Wirch (D-Kenosha) over Reince Priebus (52 to 48). In the only Republican protect seat, incumbent Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls) easily outpaced Gary Bakke by a 59 to 41 margin.

·         20th Senate District – Rep. Glenn Grothman was uncontested.

·         28th Senate Seat – Incumbent Mary Lazich.

Democrat Protect – Democrats Protect All

·         12th Senate District – Incumbent Roger Breske .

·         22nd Senate District – Incumbent Robert Wirch (D-Kenosha).

·         30th Senate District – Incumbent Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay).

Safe Democrat – Democrats Retain All

·         4th Senate District – Rep. Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) (unopposed).

·         6th Senate District – Incumbent Spencer Coggs of Milwaukee (unopposed).

·         16th Senate District –Rep. Mark Miller.

·         24th Senate District – Incumbent Julie Lassa of Stevens Point.

·         26th Senate District – Incumbent Fred Risser of Madison (3rd Party opposition only).
