Sen. Stroebel Appointed to JFC

Last week, Sen. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) named Sen. Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville) to the Joint Finance Committee (JFC). Stroebel replaces former Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls), who recently resigned after Gov. Scott Walker appointed her Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection secretary.

Many view Stroebel’s appointment to the committee as a nod to the group of senators who slowed down the budget process this year by refusing to vote for the compromise that came out of JFC.  Having one of these voices on JFC may help to avoid similar issues in the future.  That said, his appointment now does not guarantee an appointment to the committee during the next budget process which doesn’t begin until 2019.

Stroebel is a small business owner and has a master’s degree and experience in real estate. He has also served on the Cedarburg school board and Planning Commission, bank boards, and local charity boards. He was first elected to the legislature in 2011 and currently chairs the Senate Government Operations, Technology and Consumer Protection Committee.
