Legislature & Governor Highlight Importance of Apprenticeships to Wisconsin Workforce

Earlier this month, Gov. Scott Walker congratulated the four winners of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin’s skills competition. Walker said the skilled work demonstrated by these winners is “helping build a better Wisconsin” and is vital to moving the Wisconsin economy forward. Walker highlighted ABC’s apprenticeship programs that help train a new generation of workers to meet Wisconsin’s skilled workforce needs.

The legislature has also worked this session to promote apprenticeships in Wisconsin. After passing the Assembly in February, the Senate passed in its session on March 20 a bill that will allow high school seniors to participate in apprenticeship programs.  In February, the legislature passed a bill allowing 1:1 apprentice-to-skilled worker ratios in Wisconsin. These bills now await Gov. Scott Walker’s signature.
